LUCKNOW: Light showers on Wednesday evening threw traffic out of gear in Hazratganj and adjoining areas.
Despite presence of traffic police personnel, arterial roads in Lalbagh, Burlington, Hazratganj, and Udaiganj remained choc-a-bloc. While stretches like Vidhan Sabha Marg see heavy traffic on other days too, things were particularly difficult for commuters between 4.30pm to 6pm, when
rain added to their woes.
Nishant Srivastava, a government employee, said even walking on the route is tiresome in the evenings.
“While the number of vehicles is a problem, I think the bigger issue here is traffic management,” said Ankit Maurya, a student.
“I purchased tickets of a movie for 6pm show, but with these traffic snarls, looks like I am going to miss a major part of it,” said Abhishek Chauhan, a private company employee.
Anita Jain, a teacher, said that during rain, traffic troubles know no end. “It is better to remain inside the comfort of houses on a rainy day instead of venturing out. Traffic jams on such days have become common due to the failure of traffic police,” she added.
“The roads that are anyway congested during the day deteriorate further during the rain. There is no area left for pedestrians,” said Surya Yadav, a pedestrian.
